James, who grew up in Stony Brook and films his hit CBS show “Kevin Can Wait” in Bethpage, got his start in Huntington at the East Side Comedy Club in the late ’80s. “There was nothing more exciting than writing material during the day and trying it on stage that night,” James recently told Newsday. “Richie Minervini was the first club owner who gave me stage time. It was so hard to find that.”
