Troubled former NBA player Lamar Odom, whose divorce from reality-TV star Khloé Kardashian is expected to be finalized this month, reportedly has admitted himself to rehab.
E! News said Odom, 37, voluntarily checked into a San Diego substance-abuse treatment center on an unspecified recent date. He has not relapsed, E! said, but went in as sobriety maintenance 14 months after falling comatose in a Nevada legal brothel, where he had used cocaine and purported sexual-performance enhancers.
The former Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers forward was last seen publicly on Dec. 6, while shopping in Beverly Hills, E! said.
Odom has had a history of drug and alcohol issues. On March 7, 2001, he was suspended by the Clippers for five games because of marijuana use, then suspended again for marijuana that November. After being stopped for signs of intoxication on a Los Angeles freeway in August 2013, he pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to 36 months probation and ordered to pay $1,814 in fines and complete an alcohol-education program.
Odom became unconscious at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch South in Nevada on Oct. 13, 2015, and was hospitalized in Las Vegas before being transferred to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. After recovering from a stroke and other dire health issues, he was transferred Jan. 6 to a facility where he underwent months of physical and mental rehabilitation.
By April, he had recovered sufficiently to celebrate Easter with the Kardashians, amid widespread concern he had returned to substance abuse. TMZ.com reported in July that Odom was removed from a Delta Air Lines flight at Los Angeles International Airport after drinking heavily in an airport lounge and vomiting twice on the plane.
Odom and Kardashian married on Sept. 27, 2009. She filed for divorce on Dec. 13, 2013, but withdrew her petition following Odom’s hospitalization. She filed again on May 26 of this year and reportedly reached a settlement in October, paving the way for finalization.
