Lupia Nyong'o deserves Oscar notice

Oscar voters, Jennifer Lawrence is funny, warm and oddly sympathetic as Christian Bale's nosy wife in "American Hustle." In the hands of a lesser actress, this character would have been annoying, instead of endearing. But her role was clearly not as heart-wrenching nor as intense as Lupita Nyong'o's Patsey, the cotton picker at the mercy of a sadistic owner in "12 Years a Slave." Her vulnerability is perfectly conveyed by Nyong'o, as she becomes increasingly desperate after being raped by her sadistic owner. Gwen Stefani joined Instagram Friday and her debut picture post was an announcement that she and her husband, Gavin Rossdale, are expecting son No. 3. "I was ready to hand over the crown, but I guess I am still queen of the house," Gwen captioned her photo reveal, then added "#itsaboy #surroundedbyboys."
