Grammy Award-winning rapper Macklemore, of the duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and his fiancee Tricia Davis have announced via online video that they are expecting their first child.
Seattle native Macklemore, born Ben Haggerty, 31, and longtime girlfriend and road manager Davis posted the short video on his Twitter account Saturday. Titled "A Surprise from Ben and Tricia" and filmed by director and cinematographer Jason Koenig, it opens with text reading, "Today the media speculated about some big news in our life. So we decided to share it with you ourselves. Love, Ben & Tricia." An additional note, under the title, says, "We are soooo excited!"
With a soft, piano-driven song playing in background, the sepia-tinted and color video shows the couple in what appears to be an obstetrician's office, along with a woman People magazine identified as Macklemore's mother, Julie. A series of quick-cut images show a sonogram being performed, the happy couple kissing and holding each other, Julie hugging her son and kissing Davis, and pictures of the fetus. The final frame reads, "May 2015," the presumed delivery date.
The video was edited by Koenig along with Ryan Lewis, the producer, musician and DJ with whom Macklemore made the 2013 Grammy-winning best rap album, "The Heist." The duo also won that year for best rap performance ("Thrift Shop") and for best new artist.
Macklemore had announced his and Davis' engagement in January 2013, posting an Instagram image of a large diamond ring, captioned, "After 7 years . . . I asked. And she said yes. The love of my life."
