Outspoken NASCAR star Brad Keselowski took a break Friday from sparring with fellow drivers to take on the Material Girl.

When the 2012 Sprint Cup champ got wind of Madonna’s less-than-flattering comments to Howard Stern about Rochester Hills, Michigan — Keselowski’s hometown and the place Madonna lived before moving to New York, he took to his verified Twitter account to ask fans for a link to the story.

A follower obliged, sending him the report summing up Madonna’s comments.

On Wednesday, Madonna said of Rochester Hills, “I just didn't want to go back. I can't, no, I can't be around basic, provincial-thinking people.” Madonna spoke of feeling like a “country bumpkin” living in Rochester Hills around people with more means than her family, and she admitted it made her feel “resentful.”

In a series of tweets Friday, Keselowski responded, “It's difficult growing up in a low income area in a high income town. I know this first hand, that type of upbringing can give you motivation & a tremendous perspective on life. It can also lead to feelings of perpetual resentment and inadequacy. All of which I can identify with when going home to Rochester mi. Nonetheless, even if Madonna isn't, I am and always will be proud to be from Rochester Hills, MI.”
