“Suicide Squad” star Margot Robbie and British assistant director Tom Ackerly reportedly were married in her native Australia on Sunday.
The daily newspaper Gold Coast Bulletin, serving the namesake area of Queensland in which Robbie, 26, grew up, said the ceremony was held in the nearby beach town of Byron Bay, New South Wales. E! News, citing a geotag on an Instagram by the groom’s brother, James Ackerley, specified the locale as Harvest, a restaurant and wedding venue in Newrybar Village, a 20-minute drive from Byron Bay.
Robbie, who lives with Ackerley and assorted roommates in London, made her presence in Australia known Friday with an Instagram photo of herself at a café identifiable as Bam Bam Bakehouse in suburban Mermaid Beach, Queensland. Owner Ursula Watts confirmed she had been there, telling the paper, “She’s so down to Earth and has a really lovely group of friends.” The wedding guests reportedly included old schoolmates Julia Koenig, a model, and Aimee Myra-Smith.
A photo posted Sunday on the Instagram account “tsjatsjaw,” that of London attorney Tsjatsja Westerveld, showed Westerveld and one of Robbie’s three siblings, brother Cameron, flanking three women believed to be friends of the bride. The image of the smiling and laughing quintet was captioned, “The calm before the Summer storm.”
Robbie’s representative did not respond to a Newsday request for comment.
Robbie and Ackerley had met on the set of the World War II romantic drama “Suite Francaise” (2014), on which he was third assistant director. She told Vogue magazine earlier this year, “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him. And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”
