At this year’s Academy Awards, Meryl Streep will seek her fourth win, this time for playing newspaper publisher Katharine Graham in “The Post.” But here’s what’s really noteworthy: The actress, who has been Oscar-nominated a record 21 times, has more of a connection to Long Island than you might imagine:
Streep filmed a scene from her 2015 movie “Ricki and the Flash” at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.
She made a surprise visit to the 2012 Hamptons International Film Festival to join Mike Nichols and others to honor costume designer Ann Roth.
Her 2016 movie “Florence Foster Jenkins” had its world premiere in East Hampton. Afterward, the cast, which also included Hugh Grant, Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson and Nina Arianda, celebrated at the Blue Parrot in East Hampton.
When Streep played a romance novelist in the 1989 movie “She-Devil,” a pink bluff-side mansion in Belle Terre was used as her character’s home.
In Steven Spielberg’s 2001 “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” she supplied the voice of the character Blue Mecha, recording it during a visit to the filmmaker’s Hamptons home.
