Syosset-raised actress Natalie Portman, a front-runner for the best actress Oscar for her work in "Black Swan," now has additional reasons to be joyful: She and choreographer Benjamin Millepied are engaged and expecting their first child next year.
A representative for the actress - who has received rhapsodic reviews for her role as a ballerina pushed to madness preparing to dance the principal role in a production of "Swan Lake" - broke the news to People magazine Monday. Portman, 29, met the Bordeaux-born dancer/choreographer Millepied, 33, last year when he choreographed "Black Swan" and had a small role in the film.
Portman, who has earned Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for her performance, studied ballet and modern dance for several years at the American Theater Dance Workshop in New Hyde Park. She dated folk singer Devendra Banhart and Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal ("Y Tu Mama Tambien"), while Millepied, who is a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, was involved with American Ballet Theatre ballerina Isabella Boylston.
Portman and Millepied have been dating at least a year, having been spotted at a New Year's Eve party in TriBeCa last year.
The actress next stars in the romantic comedy "No Strings Attached," with Ashton Kutcher, opening Jan. 21.
