Singer Nick Jonas and Miss Universe 2012, model Olivia Culpo, reportedly have broken up.
"Entertainment Tonight," citing multiple sources, said the two were in New York separately on Monday and that Jonas, 22, had precipitated the split. The program noted they have not been seen together since their May 17 appearance at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.
Us Weekly, also citing sources, added that the two have been in New York for work reasons since last week and staying in different hotels, triggering breakup rumors. The magazine said the relationship had been troubled for some time, and noted Culpo, 23, had cryptically posted on social media a Maya Angelou quote on Sunday: "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
Jonas, who performed Saturday at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater as part of the BLI Summer Jam, has not commented on social media. On "Good Morning America" last week, he had called long-distance relationships "always tough" but claimed he and Culpo were "all good," adding, "We're both busy and young and enjoying life, so it's going well . . . For right now, we're taking it one step at a time."
Representatives for both Jonas and Culpo did not respond to Newsday requests for comment.
The two reportedly began dating in August 2013, after meeting in June when Jonas co-hosted the Miss USA pageant. They were spotted kissing courtside at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in September that year. Two months later, as her Miss Universe reign came to an end, Culpo made a dedication in the televised pageant, "To the very special person who puts a smile on my face every day. I can't wait to start this new chapter with you." She had previously tweeted, "To the person who puts a smile on my face every day. 1 hour until show time," accompanied by an Instagram photo of herself in a white gown and Jonas in a tuxedo backstage.
