Fashion pundits predicted long sleeves on the red carpet at the 88th Academy Awards, but most of the stars went bare there. Angelic in “dusty” yellow strapless Louis Vuitton with silver embellishment and a high-low balloon hem, Alicia Vikander was standout. Kate Winslet donned a custom, strapless liquid black silk lame beauty by Ralph Lauren. Sofía Vergara did strapless, too, hers a curvy, draped navy Marchesa job. Brie Larson wore a sapphire ruffled chiffon Gucci number that boasted spaghetti straps with an enormous jeweled waistband. Naomi Watts was in the blue crew, too, hers a blue and purple strapless Armani gown embroidered in stripes of Swarovski crystals — one of two choices, and hubby Liev Schreiber reportedly decided for her.

Some went the one-shoulder route, including, yes, Dr. Jill Biden, the VP’s wife in black; Heidi Klum in ethereal lavender Marchesa, and Olivia Munn in a fiery caped Stella McCartney.

Also in red, Charlize Theron, who may have been the night’s showstopper in a plunging Dior slither and massive Harry Winston pendant. Saoirse Ronan took the plunge, too — somehow elegant and easy in emerald green sequin swirls by Calvin Klein, the color to honor her home, Ireland. Rachel McAdams also wore green, major league revealing front, sides and, whoa, back by August Getty Atelier. Speaking of revealing and not in a great way, Olivia Wilde’s pleated haute couture Valentino jumper, kind of interesting but not particularly flattering.

Some gals marched to their own fashion beat, including Lady Gaga in a white Brandon Maxwell pants-gown . . . fabulous . . . and Cate Blanchett, who went for a fairy-tale vibe in a sea-foam green mermaid gown drenched in Swarovski crystals and white feathers. A late-arriving Jennifer Lawrence played it super feminine and pretty in black Dior. And Chrissy Teigen prominently displayed her baby bump in a body clinging Marchesa — red sequins on a nude background. The night’s biggest mix-up? Costume designer Sandy Powell in a shiny pantsuit — an homage to David Bowie, was mistaken for Tilda Swinton ... there will be talk.

As for the guys, shoutout to “Beast of No Nation’s” Abraham Attah, 15, who wore Tom’s shoes with his tux. In return, Tom’s donated 10,000 pairs of shoes to his country, Ghana. That’s shoe biz.
