FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Nicholas Hughes, the son of poets
Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes, committed suicide by hanging himself,according to police and his sister. He was 47.
Hughes, who was not married and had no children, killed himselfat his home March 16, Alaska State Troopers said.
He had suffered from depression, his sister, Frieda, told TheTimes of London.
Ted Hughes' publisher in London, Faber and Faber, said thesister went to Alaska after the death.
The death adds another chapter to the family's tragic history.Plath committed suicide in 1963, shortly after her turbulentrelationship with Ted Hughes ended. Her son had just turned 1 yearold.
Ted Hughes had left her for another woman, and spent yearsbattling feminists who blamed him for her death.
