The missing teenage daughter of comedian Rosie O'Donnell has been found in New Jersey.

Chelsea O'Donnell, 17, who had been the subject of a search since Sunday, "has been located by the police and is safe in their custody," Rosie O'Donnell's spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, said in a statement late Tuesday afternoon.

"The missing teen, Chelsea O'Donnell, has been located unharmed in the Shore area of New Jersey," South Nyack-Grand View Police Chief Brent P. Newbury said in a statement.

Lt. Keith Germain of the Barnegat Township Police Department said O'Donnell was found "at about 6 p.m. this evening," telling Newsday, "We received a call from the Rockland County Sheriff's Office asking us to check out a couple of residences in town." At one, Officer Nicholas Dapuzzo "made contact with a subject, and using good old-fashioned police work found the subject seemed unusually nervous. The officer said he knew she was there and was not leaving without her. And we were able to recover her."

On Tuesday afternoon, Commack native O'Donnell, 53, had posted on her website that police in the Nyack area, where her family lives, were searching for the teen, who last had been seen on Aug. 11.

"She was wearing a black sweatshirt hoodie, dark ripped blue jeans, women's grey converse sneakers and a black backpack," the notice said. "Chelsea has a large tattoo on her right side of a dream catcher with the word 'Breathe.' She left home with her 6 month old therapy dog named Bear. The dog is a 9 lbs brown and black terrier. Chelsea stopped taking her medicine and is in need of medical attention. Any information please contact authorities at 845-358-0206 or 911."

CNN reported police said the girl had run away from home, and that while the family had not seen her since Aug. 11, Chelsea had used an unknown person's cellphone to call sometime before Sunday.

"Chelsea, like millions of people, lives with mental illness," Cindi Berger had said in an earlier statement to Newsday. "It has been a difficult road for Chelsea and her family and they just want her back safe."

Rosie O'Donnell adopted daughter Chelsea Belle in 1997. The comedian has four other children: sons Parker Jaren, 20, adopted in 1995, and Blake Christopher, 15, adopted with then-partner Kelli Carpenter in 1999; and daughters Vivienne Rose, 12, born to Carpenter through artificial insemination; and Dakota, 2, adopted in January 2013 by O'Donnell and her estranged wife, Michelle Rounds.
