Following host Cat Deeley’s announcement Monday that mentor Joshua Allen was off “So You Think You Can Dance,” Los Angeles prosecutors have leveled domestic-violence charges against him.
TMZ.com on Thursday said the season-four winner, 27, faces two felony counts of willful injury and assault with a deadly weapon — a glass vase — as well as misdemeanors related to battery, vandalism and violation of a protective order.
Last month Allen allegedly chased his girlfriend into a coffee shop, threw the vase at a woman who tried to intervene, and vandalized the shop until stopped by onlookers, according to the disrict attorney’s office, which said he had also attacked his girlfriend in April.
Charges were filed on Wednesday, said TheWrap.com. If convicted, Allen could be sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.
Season 8 third-place finisher Marko Germar replaced Allen as mentor for 12-year-old Sheaden Gabriel, one of the young finalists on this 13th season subtitled “The Next Generation.”
Series creator and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who also serves as one of the show’s judges, responded on Wednesday to a fan who had tweeted him, “Pls have the graciousness to respond to our question … WHERE IS Joshua Allen? Rumor is you have something to do with it. Do you?” Lythgoe answered, “As far as I am aware his decision was private. I would suggest, therefore, that you ask Joshua.”
Allen’s most recent tweet, posted Monday, was directed to his fellow mentors and read, “Good Luck to my dear ALL-Stars.”
