'Brat Pack' actor has deal for memoir
Andrew McCarthy, star of such 1980s favorites as "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Pretty in Pink" has a deal with Free Press for "The Longest Way Home," a memoir about settling down, The Associated Press reports. The publisher announced Monday that the book is due out in the fall of 2012. McCarthy, 48, is now a popular travel writer. He will write about how his journeys helped him defeat his fears of love and commitment. McCarthy is planning to marry, for a second time, this summer.
'Bachelor Pad' to feature reunion of exes
The former "Bachelor" and "Bachelorette" contestants who will be living together on the next edition of ABC's "Bachelor Pad" (returning Aug. 8) have been announced and they include Jake Pavelka and his ex, Vienna Girardi, E! Online reports. They'll meet on camera for the first time since their last prime-time encounter on Season 14 of "The Bachelor." Also joining them will be the guy who's now dating Girardi, "Bachelorette" Season 6 contestant Kasey Kahl. And for more fun: there's Holly Durst ("Bachelor," Season 6) who'll be dealing with her ex-fiance, Michael Stagliano ("Bachelorette" Season 5).
Simpson's reality gig: mentor
Jessica Simpson is taking on the role of mentor to aspiring designers for a new NBC reality series, The Associated Press reports. The network said Monday that Simpson will help guide contestants in the series "Fashion Star" as they compete for a multimillion-dollar contract to launch their own brand. Elle McPherson will host the show, which will feature music, dancers and models along with weekly challenges for the contestants. The show's debut date was not announced.
