'Idol's' Gokey, girlfriend engaged

Three years after the tragic death of his wife, Sophia, during routine cardiac surgery, "American Idol" finalist Danny Gokey is getting remarried, Newsday's Frank Lovece reports. Gokey, who placed third behind winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert in 2008, made the announcement Christmas Day on the website for the children's charity Sophia's Heart, which he founded in his late wife's memory. Gokey and girlfriend Leyicet Peralta are planning a wedding in late January, the site said.

Coroner: Heavy D died of blood clot in lung

The sudden death of rapper Heavy D was due to a pulmonary embolism -- blockage of an artery in the lung -- caused by deep leg vein thrombosis, the Los Angeles coroner's office said Tuesday, according to Reuters. Heavy D, 44, who rose to fame in the 1990s with hits such as "Now That We Found Love," was found struggling to breathe outside his Beverly Hills apartment on Nov. 8 and died later at a nearby hospital. The coroner's office said in a report that no drugs or alcohol were involved, but said heart disease was a contributing factor in his death.

John Legend pops question

John Legend has proposed to his longtime girlfriend. The soul singer and model Chrissy Teigen "got engaged over the holidays while vacationing in the Maldives," Legend's spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, told People magazine Tuesday. Legend, 32, and Teigen, 26, began dating in 2007, according to MTV.com. Teigen has been a Maxim cover model and has modeled for Rock and Republic, Billabong and Frederick's of Hollywood.
