Country-music star Thomas Rhett and his wife of nearly five years, Lauren Gregory Akins, have welcome their second child.
“Last night at 10:28 PM Ada James Akins was born and it was truly the most amazing thing I have ever experienced,” Rhett, 27, the son of fellow country star Rhett Akins, posted on Instagram Sunday afternoon, alongside a photo of his wife in a hospital bed cuddling the newborn while he watches closely.
“I can’t believe that we have two daughters!!” the “Craving You” and “Star of the Show” singer continued. “My wife @laur_akins labored almost 36 hours. She is by far the strongest human being I have ever met and I have a new found respect for moms around the world. We are so excited that Willa Gray has a baby sister! Thank you Lord and everyone for the prayers. #outnumbered.”
Posting the same photo, his wife, whom he has known since first grade in their native Valdosta, Georgia, also wrote of the birth and long labor, saying, “Only Jesus got me through that-& she is sooo worth it.” She added, the baby “weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces and is so stinking cute I just can’t take it! We are all doing well now, just resting. Thank y’all for your prayers-she is a miracle and God is so good. Thomas Rhett and I are so I love with her. And Willa Gray is so excited to finally have a baby sister.”
Two hours later she posted a photo of the infant with a pink and white ribbon around the baby’s head.
In May the couple had adopted an 18-month-old girl from Uganda whom they named Willa Gray. They had made multiple trips to the African nation as part of their work with the group 147 Million Orphans, for which they have fundraised, including through a T-shirt Rhett designed.
“Our baby girl is hommmmeeeeee,” Akins posted on Instagram on May 12. “Thank you Jesus for bringing our family together on the same continent finally :) little cutie Willa Gray Akins came home yesterday after completely stealing our hearts in Uganda over a year ago & we’re sooooo happy we just can’t stand it.”
