The actress and children's book author, 36, appeared on NBC's "Today" Monday to assure fans of her Oxygen series, "Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood," that the couple is "not headed for divorce. We're committed to each other, we're committed to this family. But, you know, we work on things just like everyone else."
The quick-cut promo featured a lot of portentous looks and teary-eyed pronouncements. At one point, Spelling tells her husband of four years, "It's like you got more and more unhappy and angry. I just want the old Dean back. I really do. I miss you so much."
"We're just like any other couple," she told Ann Curry. "We have fights. We have our ups and downs."
Spelling said she and McDermott, 43, could have had those parts excised from the show, but, "We decided to put it out there because people can relate to it. The tabloids make it extreme."
Except they really didn't. "Access Hollywood" and the British magazine OK!, for example, simply said the couple were dismissing divorce reports after fifth-season footage "reportedly leaked." However, it didn't leak - it was part of the promo used to publicize the show.
