Melanie Martinez keeps breaking new ground.
The Baldwin native released her “Pacify Her” video last week, bringing the total number of videos from her gold album “Cry Baby” (Atlantic) to a Beyoncé-like 11, a milestone that young, developing artists rarely hit. And now Martinez, who wraps up her European tour this weekend, will set a record of her own, becoming the first artist to release a perfume through her record label.
Cry Baby Perfume Milk, which Martinez developed with Takasago perfumer Catherine Selig, will go on sale Dec. 19 through crybabybottle.com
Julie Greenwald, Atlantic Records chief operating officer says the company was excited to partner with Martinez on the new venture, adding, “Melanie Martinez has invented her own unique, fantastic world and is the force behind every aspect of her career . . . when she decided to create her own fragrance, she managed every single detail.”
Martinez says she saw the perfume as an extension of her album. “I knew I wanted to make a vintage inspired baby bottle perfume,” Martinez says in a statement. “I knew I wanted it to be a milky white and smell sweet and nostalgic . . . I’m very excited for people to not only smell it, but also have another piece of the ‘Cry Baby’ album.”
