Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Anne Hathaway, Charlotte Riley and Kate Mara (above) are in the running for leading roles in Christopher Nolan's next and final Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film apparently needs to fill two female roles, one villain and one love interest. Already there's speculation that one will be Talia, daughter of the inscrutably-named supervillain Ra's al Ghul (played by Liam Neeson in "Batman Begins"). In the comic books, Talia and Batman have a stormy relationship that results in a son.
Some of the potential players are well-known. Knightley is a regular in the "Pirates of the Carribbean" franchise, Biel recently appeared in "Valentine's Day" and "The A-Team" and Hathaway has been emerging as a serious actress in films like "Rachel Getting Married" and "Love and Other Drugs."
Riley, a British actress, has mostly television work under her belt; she is also engaged to the rakish actor Tom Hardy, seen last year in Nolan's "Inception." Mara, the sister of Rooney Mara, has popped up in small roles in "127 Hours" and "Iron Man 2."
