Babylon gets a new performing arts venue
Broadway is coming to Babylon this spring as the village's old movie house reopens as the Argyle Theatre. The near 500-seat venue is to open in March and feature programming from Broadway-style shows to folk, jazz, oldies and tribute bands concerts, plus comedy and children's theater.
Marvel Universe Live! comes to Nassau Coliseum
Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, Hulk, Doctor Strange, Black Widow and the Guardians of the Galaxy team up to defeat villains such as Loki, Nebula, Yondu, Electro, Green Goblin, Rhino, Black Cat and others in Marvel Universe Live! at Nassau Coliseum March 22-April 1. Kids can witness the superheroes try to prevent Loki from gaining control of the Wand of Watoomb before he crowns himself ruler of Asgard and Earth. This live action show features special effects, aerial stunts and immersive video projection.
My Father's Place re-opens at the Roslyn Hotel
Popular club My Father's Place returns to Roslyn this summer after three decades. The tiny club was where Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel were once regulars, and The Police and Bob Marley played some of their earliest U.S. dates.
Weezer, Foreigner, more at the Jones Beach theater
Weezer (pictured), and the Pixies play at Jones Beach Theater on July 18. Meanwhile, Foreigner, Whitesnake and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience is scheduled for June 22 while the Foo Fighters’ “Concrete & Gold” tour pulls in July 14.
U2 returns to Long Island
U2 comes back to Nassau Coliseum for the first time in 26 years on June 9. The show will focus on the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers’ critically acclaimed new album, “Songs of Experience.”
Blue Point Brewing Company expands
Blue Point Brewing in Patchogue is about to go something close to macro, with a two-story, 54,000-square-foot brewery and tasting room slated to open at 225 W. Main St. during the summer of 2018. The ground floor will house a 60,000-barrel brewery, while a second-floor brewpub and tasting room (with 30-40 taps) will serve up food as well as views of the brewery operations below.
