More Long Islanders turned up for the 2014 Great South Bay Music Festival this weekend than ever before in the event's 8-year history. Some 16,000 people attended the three-day concert event at Shorefront Park in Patchogue, and organizers attribute the increase in attendance -- of approximately 6,000 people -- to efforts to make the fest more family friendly as well as by attracting bigger-name acts to the stage.
Children's performer Laurie Berkner attracted parents with small children, while B.B. King and Taking Back Sunday surely helped ticket sales across other demographics.
Farther east, Phil Donahue, Alec Baldwin, Barbara Walters, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick were in the house at Guild Hall in East Hampton for Marlo Thomas' performance in "Clever Little Lies." (You can catch it through Aug. 3.)
And Simon Cowell was spotted at Red Stixs restaurant in Water Mill.
