Miller. O'Reilly. "Bold." "Fresh."
Sounds like the name of either a beer or a road trip starring TV news' most-viewed host. Let's go with the latter, shall we?
Saturday night night at 8, "Bill O'Reilly & Dennis Miller -- Bolder and Fresher Tour 2011" kicks off at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury. I recently spoke with Miller, a longtime contributor to "The O'Reilly Factor," and here's what he had to say:
So, umm, what will this be about exactly?I come out and do a half-hour of Tears to Fears -- "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" -- and then O'Reilly will do a half-hour. Then, "You Don't Send Me Flowers" plays, we slow dance, we embrace . . . then take an hour of questions.
You're not entirely serious, I presume. We have fun together. He likes me to bring out that side of him. I think it's good. It'll be closer to two hours. I've never worked with him before, and I don't know what his half-hour will be, [but audiences] love those stories from his youth. That book sold through the moon. They can't get enough of [those] stories. . . . I just went out and did a Q and A at the Reagan Library, and . . . God knows, I've had a lot of shows shot out from under me, so I have a lot of those stories.
Obvious question, but will it be jokey?I'm a comedian. I'm pretty good at writing jokes pretty quickly and then commentary. But he's the tent pole, and I'm riding sidecar. I've never done a [live road] show with him before, but it's been three years I've been on "The O'Reilly Factor," and we're simpatico on some things, and we don't agree on others. I think Bill's anti-death penalty; I think some people should be offed in a second, if you kill a cop or kid. . . .
Want to give me a flavor of your commentary (although I think you just did)? There's nothing wrong with trying to make it in this country, and that's the beauty of this country. But now we want to help the helpless and don't give a ---- about the clueless anymore. . . . "
