Summer begins early for Long Island's two seasonal theater companies - Bay Street and Gateway Playhouse.

Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor dedicates a new 99-seat second stage, the Annie & Eli - in honor of Anne Jackson and Eli Wallach - with a gala celebration May 1, featuring appearances and video tributes by Lauren Bacall, Zoe Caldwell, Barbara Cook, Harvey Keitel and other stars. The thespian couple are longtime East End residents.

Gateway Playhouse opens its season in Bellport May 19 with "Happy Days," a new musical making its Long Island premiere. Based, of course, on the TV series starring Ron Howard and Henry "The Fonz" Winkler, it runs through June 12.

After a May 29 concert by Tony-winning star Sutton Foster, Bay Street's main stage season opens June 1-27 with the New York premiere of Damian Lanigan's "Dissonance." Tickets are available at baystreet.org or gatewayplayhouse.com.
