WHO Alicia Vikander

THE MOVIE “Submergence”

THE DEAL Director Wim Wenders began shooting his upcoming thriller starring the Oscar-winning Swedish actress (“The Danish Girl”) and James McAvoy in Berlin on Tuesday, Variety reports. Vikander plays a biomathematician who falls for a water engineer (McAvoy) just weeks before he is taken hostage by Jihadists in Somalia. Filming is scheduled to take place in France, Spain and Africa before wrapping in July.

WHO J.J. Abrams

THE DEAL The director of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” continues to support a home-video system causing controversy in the movie industry, according to TheWrap. The system, called Screening Room, would deliver current theatrical releases to homes for $50, an idea some say could end the concept of going to the movies. “We have to adapt,” Abrams told a roomful of theater owners at CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this week. Abrams sits on the advisory panel of Screening Room, which is spearheaded by Napster founder Sean Parker.

THE EVENT Spring Doc Day

THE DEAL Three animal-themed documentaries will screen this weekend as part of the extended programming offered by the Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival. The titles include “The Champions,” about pit bulls rescued from the fighting ring of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick; “The Messenger,” an ode to imperiled song birds, and the self-explanatory “The Internet Cat Video Festival.” The event also includes a daylong silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will go to the nonprofit festival.

INFO Sunday at noon at Bay Street Theater, 1 Bay St., Sag Harbor. Tickets are $15; passes are $35. Call 631-725-9500 or go to ht2ff.com
