A person dressed as Chewbacca was arrested in Ukraine while trying to drive Darth Vader to a local polling place, according to reports.

Videos posted to YouTube show the Wookie being detained by unamused police in the city of Odessa, while a Stormtrooper sits stoically in the passenger seat. Darth Vader can be glimpsed riding in the back seat. Chewbacca's offense? Campaigning on election day, according to the BBC.

The affair appears to be part of a publicity stunt engineered by the Ukrainian Internet Party, which has a history of using “Star Wars” characters for self-promotion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The party’s mayoral candidate is legally named Darth Ivanovich Vader. He was not allowed to vote that day because his name was allegedly not on the candidate list. His children, Luke and Leia, reportedly did cast their votes.

A video (with some obscenities in its English subtitles) shows the towering figure of Chewbacca being escorted from his vehicle and roughly arrested by several police officers. Chewbacca later appeared in court and was fined 170 hryvna – roughly $7 -- but told the media he could not pay "as his funds are an intergalactic bank that has no branches on this planet,” according to the news site RT.
