Ben Stiller’s Derek Zoolander has made the cover of Vogue, bringing his satirical male model character one step closer to the real thing.

The Vogue issue features Stiller and co-star Penelope Cruz on its cover and includes a photo spread in which the two re-enact various iconic fashion shoots. The photographer is none other than Annie Leibovitz.

It’s part of a major pubicity and advertising blitz for “Zoolander 2,” Stiller’s upcoming sequel to his 2001 hit “Zoolander,” which mercilessly spoofed the narcisissm of the fashion industry. Along with an ad for Fiat -- in which Stiller’s character drives a sporty yellow Fiat 500X -- the Vogue shoot makes Zoolander just a little less distinguishable from the industry he was intended to spoof.

The new film includes many surprise cameos, although Stiller tells Vogue that he wasn’t able to get Karl Lagerfeld to appear in the film.

“He’s iconic,” Stiller says. “It breaks my heart. Maybe if we ever do another...”

“Zoolander 2” hits theaters Feb. 12.
