Idris Elba (The "Thor" movies, 2017's "The Mountain Between Us") is in final negotiations to join the cast of "Cats," the big-screen adaptation of the popular Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Entertainment Weekly reports. He will play Macavity, a master criminal.
The previously announced cast includes Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden and Taylor Swift. Tom Hooper, who previously directed the movie adaptation of "Les Misérables," will do the same for this project. Shooting is expected to begin later this year in London.
"Cats" is based on T.S. Eliot’s "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats," a collection of feline poems that follows a tribe of cats known as the Jellicles as they debate which one of them will return to a new life. Macavity is the story's villain, creating havoc on the other cats as they decide who will be the chosen one.
