WHO Julia Roberts
THE MOVIE “Wonder”
THE DEAL A new movie starring Roberts as the mother of a boy whose face is affected by a rare medical condition will be released in November, according to Variety. “Wonder” is based on R.J. Palacio’s bestseller and stars an unrecognizable Jacob Tremblay (“Room”) as August Pullman, whose unusual facial features provoke bullying from classmates at a new school. Initially scheduled for an April release, “Wonder” scored so well in test screenings that the studio, Lionsgate, chose a more high-profile date of Nov. 17, the weekend before Thanksgiving.
WHO The Notorious B.I.G.
THE DEAL An authorized documentary on the rap legend is in the works, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tentatively titled “Notorious B.I.G.: One More Chance,” the film will be made in collaboration with the rapper’s mother, Voletta Wallace, and will feature his music. The directors are the Malloy brothers, Emmett and Brendon, who have directed dozens of music videos for a wide range of artists. The Notorious B.I.G., born Christopher Wallace and also known as Biggie Smalls, released only two albums before he was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1997.
WHO Roman Polanski
THE MOVIE “Based on a True Story”
THE DEAL The latest thriller from the controversial director has been purchased by Sony Pictures Classics for North American distribution, TheWrap reports. It stars Emmanuel Seigner as a Paris-based author with writer’s block who meets a mysterious woman (Eva Green) at a book signing. Polanski, who still faces charges in the United States for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 1977, withdrew as honorary president of France’s Cesar film awards last month after a petition drive objected to his appointment.
