'Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter' review: A whimsical comedy

KUMIKO, THE TREASURE HUNTER

(Unrated). This moody comic allegory about desperation, disconnection and dreams comes from indie-filmmaking brothers David and Nathan Zellner. The film uses "Fargo," the Coen brothers classic, as a touchstone to examine modern life. Rinko Kikuchi stars as Kumiko, a depressed cog in a corporate wheel, until a scavenged video of "Fargo" sets her on a quest to find the briefcase of cash Steve Buscemi's bad guy buried in the snow. As we follow Kumiko's strange journey, the Zellners remind us how much better the world is when we have the whimsy and wonder of Quixotes in it. At Sag Harbor Cinema (1:45)
