WHO Nicole Kidman

THE MOVIE "Fair and Balanced"

THE DEAL It looks like the Oscar-winning actress may have to wait a bit before playing Gretchen Carlson.  Deadline reported Tuesday that Annapurna Pictures was not proceeding with its biopic on Fox News chief Roger Ailes and the sexual misconduct allegations that brought him down.  The news came one day after it was announced that Malcolm McDowell would play media mogul Rupert Murdoch in the movie, which also was to star John Lithgow as Ailes and Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, and Kate McKinnon and Margot Robbie. Other studios might be in the mix, Deadline reported.

WHO James Gunn

THE MOVIE “BrightBurn”

THE DEAL The director’s long-awaited horror film will be a little longer in coming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Originally slated for a Nov. 30 release, the film was pushed by Sony to May 24. Little has been revealed about Gunn’s film, especially since he stopped giving interviews after being fired by Disney from “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3” because of some offensive, years-old tweets. Sony, however, seems to have faith in the movie: The new release date, at the start of the Memorial Day weekend, is one of the year’s highest-profile spots.

WHO Asa Butterfield

THE MOVIE “Then Came You”

THE DEAL A new movie featuring the London-born star of “Ender’s Game” has been acquired by Shout! Studios. The film is a coming-of-age story about a feisty teenager with a terminal illness (Maisie Williams) who befriends a fearful hypochondriac (Butterfield). Also in the cast are David Koechner, Ken Jeong and Nina Dobrev. The studio plans a theatrical release next year.
