Movie Buzz: Dreyfuss' 'Lightkeepers' an Oscar pick?

WHO Richard Dreyfuss

THE MOVIE "The Lightkeepers"

THE DEAL Just when you thought you knew all the year's Oscar contenders, along comes this Cape Cod period romance starring Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The industry trade magazine calls the movie "a dark horse candidate," thanks to Dreyfuss' "showiest lead performance" in years. The film, which opens Friday in Los Angeles for an Oscar-qualifying run, also stars Mamie Gummer, who is Meryl Streep's daughter.

WHO Kenny Ortega

THE MOVIE "In the Heights"

THE DEAL Ortega, who directed the posthumous documentary "Michael Jackson's This Is It" after helping create the singer's would-be comeback concerts in London, has been tapped to direct the film version of the Tony-winning musical, Variety reports. Ortega is no stranger to such projects: He also directed the "High School Musical" films and choreographed "Dirty Dancing" back in 1987.

WHO Russell Crowe

THE MOVIE "Robin Hood"

THE DEAL Universal unveiled a trailer for Ridley Scott's upcoming adventure movie on Apple.com Tuesday morning, and it quickly spread around the Internet. Crowe stars as the legendary forest-based freedom-fighter, Cate Blanchett plays his maid Marion, and the trailer promises plenty of bows, arrows, swords and guitar-based rock. The film is scheduled for release May 14.
