THE DEAL Steven Spielberg's sci-fi heartwarmer from 1982, with Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore as siblings who befriend a Reese's Pieces-chomping alien, celebrates its 30th anniversary with a remastered digital version that will play in theaters around the country. The one-night screening includes a recorded introduction from Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz, plus a segment in which now-grown Barrymore shares her thoughts on the film.

THE DEAL This independent comedy-drama, starring Tammy Blanchard as a woman whose orderly life in Manhattan is disrupted by her sister (Mira Sorvino), played only briefly on Long Island over the summer. It returns this week for four screenings, all accompanied by writer-director Savoca ("Dogfight," "Household Saints") and producer Richard Guay, at Patchogue's Plaza Media & Arts Center. The filmmakers also will hold a 90-minute seminar there Saturday at 5 p.m.; admission is $7.

THE DEAL Cinema Arts Centre will screen six shorts by local
filmmakers chosen for the biennial, a juried art and media show presented in conjunction with the Heckscher Museum of Art. Among the selections are "Midnight Dream," a portrait of a pianist from director Peter Scheer of Dix Hills; the two-minute, animated "Umbra," by Ilana Schwartz of Woodbury; and "Not Dark Yet," the story of a father-son reunion from Brian Paccione of East Northport. The entire program runs about two hours.
