THE MOVIE "Life on the Line"

THE DEAL David Hackl's indie drama about a crew of death-defying high-wire men working on the electrical grid goes into production next week in Vancouver, reports. Along with Travolta, the movie stars Kate Bosworth and Devon Sawa. The film is one of the few to tackle the niche industry since 1937's "Slim," starring Henry Fonda, and 1941's "Manpower," with Edward G. Robinson.

THE DEAL The star of "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby" has been chosen to sit on the jury of the London Film Festival, where his latest movie will hold its U.K. premiere, according to The Hollywood Reporter. nominated actress Sally Hawkins ("Blue Jasmine"), producer-director Sophie Fiennes and producer Luc Roeg, son of the British filmmaker Nicolas Roeg. McAvoy is set to appear next fall in "Victor Frankenstein," an adaptation of the Mary Shelley tale that stars Daniel Radcliffe as Igor.

THE DEAL Israel has chosen the courtroom drama by sibling filmmakers Shlomi and Ronit Elkabetz as its official entry into the foreign-language Oscar competition, Variety reports. The film, about a woman unable to divorce her husband without his permission under rabbinical law, premiered at Cannes earlier this year and went on to win Israel's Ophir award for best picture. It screens at the Hamptons International Film Festival next month.
