THE MOVIE "The Hunger Games"

THE DEAL The singer and sometime actor ("Precious") has reportedly been cast in the eagerly awaited film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' popular young-adult sci-fi novels, in which a tyrannical government forces children to battle each other to the death. Kravitz is set to play Cinna, a fashion stylist assigned to help the heroine, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Other, already announced cast members include Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

THE MOVIE "Harvest"

THE DEAL Robert Loggia plays a dying but still-vivacious patriarch in this drama coproduced by Bellmore native Jody Girgenti, whose resume includes stints at the distributor THINKFilm and the AMC network. The film, which features a soundtrack by the indie-rock darlings Duncan Sheik and David Poe, won several awards at small festivals before opening in Manhattan recently. It opens locally this weekend.

THE MOVIE "Play It Again Sam"

THE DEAL No, not the Woody Allen film -- this documentary is subtitled "The Sam Schoenfeld Story" and focuses on the Jewish basketball star who made his mark in the pre-NBA 1920s and '30s. Next week's screening features in-person appearances from the filmmaker, Matt Berkowitz, and Schoenfeld's son, Robert, both from Plainview.
