THE MOVIE "Inception"
THE DEAL Warner Bros. recently released a trailer for this trippy-looking thriller from Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Night"), available at Apple.com. Don't expect much information: You'll see DiCaprio looking concerned, two guys floating toward a ceiling and little evidence of a cast that includes Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Warner is calling the movie "a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind." It's due in theaters this summer.
WHO Dwayne Johnson
THE MOVIE "Tooth Fairy"
THE DEAL The wrestler-turned-actor, formerly known as The Rock, continues his transformation from brawny action star ("The Scorpion King") to kid-friendly comedian ("Race to Witch Mountain") with this entry from 20th Century Fox, due Jan. 22. Johnson plays a smash-mouth hockey player who dons wings and a tutu to visit various children. The screenwriters include Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, whose run of 1980s hits includes "Splash," "Gung Ho" and "Parenthood."
WHO Kathryn Bigelow
THE MOVIE "The Hurt Locker"
THE DEAL As 2009 comes to a close and Oscar voting season begins, this Iraq war film is dominating critics' top-10 lists. That's raising questions about a possible best picture Oscar and, more significantly, about Bigelow's chances of becoming the first woman to win best director. Right now "Up in the Air" seems to be a favorite (judging by its six nominations at the Golden Globes), but Oscar voters have until 8 p.m. Jan. 23 to submit their nominations.
