THE DEAL Lionsgate is moving ahead with a drama about Miami hip-hop group 2 Live Crew, according to Deadline. The film is based on a memoir by rapper Luther “Luke Skyywalker” Campbell, who will be played by RJ Cyler. The group’s 1989 hit album, “Nasty as They Wanna Be,” made headlines for its sexually explicit lyrics that resulted in obscenity charges; in the mid-1990s, the group landed in court for sampling Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman” without permission. Campbell’s later ventures included founding an intercity youth sports program, starring in a VH1 reality show, producing an adult film and running for mayor of Miami-Dade County.

THE DEAL The filmmaker’s latest now has a release date of Dec. 1, making it eligible for any 2017 Academy Award nominations, Variety reports. The drama, set in 1950s Coney Island, marks Allen’s first collaboration with actress Kate Winslet and features Jim Belushi, Justin Timberlake and Juno Temple. As is customary with Allen movies that are still in the early stages, plot details have yet to be released. The film is Allen’s second project with Amazon Studios, after last year’s “Café Society.”

THE MOVIE “Dumplin’ ”
THE DEAL The breakout star of “Patti Cake$,” a Sundance hit about a plus-size white woman trying to become a rapper, has landed a new role opposite Jennifer Aniston, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Dumplin’ ” tells the story of Willowdean (Macdonald), a Texas teenager who enters a beauty pageant purely to irritate her mother (Aniston), who runs it. Instead, the unlikely contestant winds up redefining the traditions of the event. Director Anne Fletcher (“Hot Pursuit”) is set to begin filming in August.
