Movie buzz: 'Paranormal Activity,' Gibson sequels

THE MOVIE "Paranormal Activity" sequel

THE DEAL The no-budget, no-stars horror film that became last year's surprise hit is yielding a sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Filmmaker Oren Peli will be involved only as a co-producer, while the script will come from TV writer Michael R. Perry (Fox's "Millennium") and will be directed by Kevin Greutert ("Saw VI"). In a twist, Paramount plans to release the film Oct. 22, directly opposite Lionsgate's upcoming "Saw VII."

THE MOVIE "The Resurrection of the Christ"

THE DEAL Bill McKay, who produced Mel Gibson's controversial but highly profitable "The Passion of the Christ," is working on a $20-million follow-up, Variety reports. The film, to be released Easter of 2011 through Samuel Goldwyn Films, will focus on the political jockeying among key players such as Pontius Pilate, Herod, Caiaphas and Judas.

THE MOVIE "What's on Your Plate?"

THE DEAL This health-foodie documentary follows two 11-year-old girls in New York City as they visit greenmarkets and community-supported gardens and speak with farmers, storekeepers and food activists. A screening this weekend will be followed by a kid-friendly cooking workshop led by Old Westbury-based chef and instructor Bhavani Jaroff.

INFO Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $12. 800-838-3006; cinemaartscentre.org.
