THE DEAL The London-born actress is in talks to star opposite Colin Firth in a biopic set in the world of yacht racing, Deadline.com reports. The film will tell the story of Donald Crowhurst, an amateur sailor with an unusual background -- born in British India, raised as a girl until the age of 7 -- who entered a 1968 round-the-world yacht race in the hopes of saving his failing business. The director is James Marsh, whose last film, "The Theory of Everything," earned an Oscar for Eddie Redmayne as scientist Stephen Hawking.
WHO Brianna Hildebrand
THE MOVIE "Deadpool"
THE DEAL Her short resumé includes only a Web series, but the Texas actress has been cast in Fox's upcoming spinoff from the "X-Men" franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Ryan Reynolds will reprise the title role he first played in 2009 ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), Hildebrand will play a telepathic character called Negasonic Teenage Warhead. The film is in production in Vancouver with first-time feature director Tim Miller. Also in the cast are Gina Carano ("Haywire") and T.J. Miller. "Deadpool" is scheduled for release Feb. 12.
THE MOVIE "Home"
THE DEAL Middling reviews from critics haven't stopped this DreamWorks Animation film from becoming a hit at the box office and on Wall Street. DreamWorks has been laying off what could amount to 20 percent of its California workforce in the wake of box-office duds like "Mr. Peabody & Sherman," according to the Los Angeles Times. But "Home," a sci-fi adventure with voices by Rihanna, Jim Parsons and Jennifer Lopez, surpassed industry expectations by more than $20 million and opened at No. 1 last weekend with a total of $52.1 million. According to Variety, the studio's stock jumped 8 percent Monday, trading at $24.30 per share.
