Movie buzz: Steve McQueen racing bio out in November

THE MOVIE "Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans"

THE DEAL A documentary on actor Steve McQueen will be released in New York and Los Angeles on Nov. 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter. FilmRise, a Brooklyn-based distributor, has acquired rights to the film, which chronicles McQueen's disappointing attempt to make a film about his great passion, race-car driving. "The Man & Le Mans," which premiered at Cannes earlier this year, features private audio recordings from McQueen and unreleased production footage.

WHO Nicholas Hoult

THE MOVIE "Rebel in the Rye"

THE DEAL The young British actor will play reclusive American author J.D. Salinger in an upcoming drama. Directed and written by Danny Strong (a creator of Fox's "Empire") from Kenneth Slawenski's biography of Salinger, "Rebel in the Rye" will focus on the lesser-known aspects of the author's life, notably his service in World War II and his later turn toward Eastern spirituality. The sales and financing company Bloom will introduce the project to foreign buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

THE MOVIE "Contracted: Phase II"

THE DEAL Two Long Island film producers have released a sequel to their 2013 film "Contracted," a horror-thriller about a deadly disease. Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz, who met at Hebrew school in Lawrence, now run their own production company, BoulderLight Pictures, in Los Angeles. "Contracted: Phase II" has been picked up for distribution by IFC Midnight, which specializes in genre flicks, and will be released at select theaters in New York City and on video-on-demand Friday.
