WHO Charlize Theron
THE MOVIE "Young Adult"
THE DEAL The movie won't open on Long Island until tomorrow, but this comedy-drama starring Theron as a troubled woman trying to woo an old boyfriend (Patrick Wilson) is showing some early signs of Oscar viability. According to Variety, the cast and director Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air") will accept the Vanguard Award at the 23rd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on Jan. 7, following the movie's multiple nominations at the Critics' Choice Awards earlier this week. "Up in the Air," however, also earned plenty of pre-Oscar prizes but ultimately left the 82nd Academy Awards empty-handed.
WHO Sarah Bolger
THE MOVIE "The Moth Diaries"
THE DEAL Just when you thought the vampire trend was dying comes this adaptation of Rachel Klein's novel about a young girl who thinks that a boarding-school classmate may be a bloodsucker. IFC Films has acquired the American rights, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bolger, an Irish actress whose credits include Showtime's "The Tudors," plays the lead, while British model-actress Lily Cole plays the suspicious student. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and also stars Scott Speedman ("Barney's Version) and Sarah Gadon ("A Dangerous Method").
WHO Tom Sizemore
THE DEAL The character actor whose star seemed to be rising with roles in "Heat" and "Saving Private Ryan" is set to write a memoir about his cocaine and heroin addiction, reports Deadline.com. A graduate of VH1's reality show "Celebrity Rehab," Sizemore has become known less for his acting than for his relationship with former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss and for a sex tape that appeared on the Internet in 2005. The actor now says he has two years of sobriety under his belt. The book is to be published through Atria Books in 2013.
