There’s a toga party happening this week, and everyone’s invited.
“National Lampoon’s Animal House,” the movie that will make you want to shout for Otis Day and the Knights — not to mention John Belushi’s imitation of a zit — returns to three Long Island theaters on Sunday, Aug. 14, and Wednesday, Aug. 17, as part of TCM’s Big Screen Classics series hosted by Fathom Events.
Bookending the screening will be filmed commentaries by Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz, who’ll serve up trivia and back stories. One tidbit he might mention is how Belushi improvised his cafeteria scene performance as well as his exploding zit. Also of note: “Animal House” marked Kevin Bacon’s screen debut, and Jack Webb of “Dragnet” fame turned down the role of Dean Wormer, memorably played by John Vernon.
The movie is being shown at the Farmingdale Multiplex Cinema, Stony Brook 17 and Island 16 Cinema de Lux in Holbrook at 7 p.m. both days. Tickets are $13.50 and can be purchased at fathomevents.com
