Snow queen Elsa, her sister Anna and other characters from last year's animated hit "Frozen" will return in an animated short, "Frozen Fever."
Walt Disney Animation Studios, which first announced the short during Tuesday's ABC special "The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic," noted Wednesday that the plot would center on Anna's birthday, which Elsa and Anna's beau Kristoff are determined to make special. Olaf the snowman also will appear in the short, scheduled for release next year.
Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, the joint directors of "Frozen," return to helm the sequel short, and the film's producer, Peter Del Vecho, will reprise his role. Also returning, with a new original song, is the husband-and-wife songwriting team of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who won the Academy Award for Original Song with "Let It Go." The film itself won the Oscar for Animated Feature.
Disney's statement did not specify whether stars Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad would return to voice their characters.
