"The Tuneful Trolley," Joseph Nolan’s homemade documentary about a little-known local band that briefly hit the big time in the late 1960s, will hold an encore screening this week at the New York Long Island Film Festival.

The film follows six teenagers from Islip and Bay Shore who began playing high school dances while still in high school themselves, then quickly signed a deal with Capitol Records and joined the rock-music gold-rush of the ‘60s. The hourlong film, which played several other fests earlier this year, will screen Friday, Oct. 22, at the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge, 883 South Broadway.

The New York Long Island Film Festival will hold its third annual edition from Oct. 21 to 24 at two Lindenhurst venues, the Moose Lodge and the South Shore Theatre Experience at 115 South Wellwood Ave. Founded by local filmmaker Gerry Ferretti and billed as "The Festival for Everyone," the NYLIFF aims to give exposure to local filmmakers working within a range of budgets. It was one of the few film fests to hold its 2020 event in-person during the pandemic; this year’s will be in-person as well.

The lineup of features and shorts are grouped into roughly two-hour blocks of five or so films each. Tickets are $12 per block; an all-access pass is available for $50. The festival’s opening-night party will be held at Sand City South Brewing Co., 150 South Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst.
