Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are set to star in Steven Spielberg’s film “The Post,” about The Washington Post’s series of articles on the Pentagon Papers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hanks will play the newspaper’s editor, Ben Bradlee, while Streep will play publisher Katherine Graham. There’s no word on who will play Daniel Ellsberg, the whistleblower who leaked the documents.

The project is nothing if not timely. Although it’s been in the works since last October, when producer Amy Pascal bought Liz Hannah’s spec script, the news that the movie is going forward comes at a moment of crisis for the U.S. media. Though few details about the script are known, its central story — in which The Washington Post revealed hidden truths about the Vietnam War — is generally regarded as a shining moment in the history of the free press.

“The Post” will be produced by Fox and Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. No release date has been announced.
