THE DEAL The actress will headline the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic, which begins June 30, Variety reports. Thurman will receive the president’s prize on opening night. Also at the fest to receive the same prize will be Jeremy Renner, who stars in the wilderness thriller “Wind River,” which will be shown at the closing gala July 8. Also being shown at the festival will be “Freak Show,” a gay teen comedy that marks the directorial debut of producer Trudie Styler, who is married to Sting.

THE MOVIE “John Wick”

THE DEAL The two-film franchise, starring Keanu Reeves as a ruthless hit man who exists in a shadow society of professional assassins, will launch as a comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment in September. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the storyline will include Wick’s origin story, though no details are being revealed. “We’ve received the blessings from all of the creators involved with the films, every step of the way,” said Dynamite editor Anthony Marques. The writer is Greg Pak (DC’s “Action Comics”) and the illustrator is Giovanni Valletta.

THE MOVIE “My Neighbor Totoro”

THE DEAL Studio Ghibli Fest, a monthly six-film series dedicated to the acclaimed Japanese animation studio, kicks off this weekend with “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988), in which two girls in postwar Japan encounter spirits in the woods. The series, which plays at theaters around the country — including several on Long Island — includes “Kiki’s Delivery Service” (1989), the Oscar-winning “Spirited Away” (2001) and “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004).
