THE MOVIE “Bad Boys for Life”

THE DEAL Sony Pictures is close to greenlighting the long-awaited third movie in the “Bad Boys” franchise with Smith as Miami cop Mike Lowrey, Variety reports. The film, tentatively set for release in 2020, would arrive 17 years after the last installment. Although Smith is said to be on board, his co-star, Martin Lawrence, has not yet signed on. Sony is reportedly aiming to begin production in early 2019.

THE MOVIE “I Am Mother”

THE DEAL The Australian actress will lend her voice to the character of a nurturing robot in an upcoming sci-fi thriller, according to Deadline. “I Am Mother” features rising actress Clara Rugaard as Daughter, a girl raised by a robot as part of an effort to resurrect an extinct human race. The film, which will also feature Hilary Swank as a woman who throws Daughter’s world into turmoil, will be directed by first-timer Grant Sputore. The robot was created by WETA Workshop, the Oscar-winning outfit behind “Avatar” and “The Lord of The Rings.”

THE MOVIE “Relic”

THE DEAL The star of “Professor Marston and the Wonder Women” will join Emily Mortimer and Robyn Nevin in a drama about dementia, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Natalie Erika James makes her feature directing debut with “Relic,” which tells the story of a daughter, a mother and a grandmother who are haunted by signs of aged dementia. James said in a statement that her film was “inspired by the experience of Alzheimer’s within my own family and the shift in family dynamics as we slowly have to parent our parents.”
