THE MOVIE “The Greatest Showman on Earth”

THE DEAL The 19-year-old singer-actress is in negotiations to join Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron in 20th Century Fox’s musical about circus impresario P.T. Barnum, Deadline reports. Jackman will play Barnum, while Zendaya and Efron would play a couple. The California-born Zendaya, who’s appeared on “Dancing With the Stars” and the Disney Channel sitcom “Shake It Up,” was recently cast in Sony’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” starring Tom Holland in the title role.

THE MOVIE “Lost Emulsion”

THE DEAL Glenn Andreiev’s documentary on the race against time to preserve silent and early sound films will screen early next week. Among the titles mentioned are the Lon Chaney horror film “London After Midnight,” the 1933 Warner Bros. comedy “Convention City” and the 1936 John Wayne vehicle “The Oregon Trail.” Andreiev, of Kings Park, is a frequent lecturer on filmmaking and screenwriting around Long Island and beyond.

THE EVENT The Cherry Grove Archives Outtakes Film Festival

THE DEAL Devoted to documentaries, shorts and features all filmed on the longtime gay haven of Fire Island, the festival begins this weekend. One highlight of the three-day program is “Camille,” a 1953 drag parody — inspired by George Cukor’s 1936 classic — directed by Robert Austin and filmed largely in Cherry Grove. According to festival organizers, Cukor got wind of the film and invited Austin to show it at his California mansion.
