Lee DeWyze is overenunciating U2's “Beautiful Day” and overworking the melody when he should just sing it straight. He fares so much better in the chorus, though he seems way too reserved for the song.
“I think you got swallowed up a bit in that song,” Kara DioGuardi said.
Cowell doesn’t criticize DeWyze, instead congratulating him for being a nice guy – very clever praise considering that’s what will land him the most votes.
Crystal Bowersox is making Patty Griffin’s “Up to the Mountain” into her own, a thrilling, inspirational version that shows off her voice. Ellen DeGeneres says she’s “in a league of your own.” For his final critique, Simon Cowell says, “That was outstanding.”
Round Three goes to Bowersox, in a sweep.
Will America agree? I sure hope so.
