6. Kanye West
Everywhere we turned this year, Kanye was in the headlines, for both good and bad. His album "My Dark Twisted Fantasy" received praise from music critics as the best album of 2010. The hype around the mini-movie for his single "Runaway" was ridiculous, and the controversy with his appearance and subsequent cancelation of a performance on the "Today" show and comments about George W. Bush kept Kanye on our minds this year. Oh yes, and we can't forget about his infamous Twitter rants. What would 2010 have been without the Kanye? Credit: AP

Welcome to the Backstage Pass year-end countdown. Happy holidays! This week, we'll be counting down the best albums of 2010 and next week we'll tackle the singles.

#25-21, #20-16, #15-11, #10-6, #5-2

1. Kanye West, “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” (Roc-a-Fella): It takes an egomaniacal narcissist to conceive of an album this grand, one that doesn't just strive to be the best in hip-hop, with the stunning “Monster” and “So Appalled,” but also stretches its boundaries with the prog-rock-sampling “Power” and the nine-minutes-plus epic “Runaway.” Luckily, West fits that bill.
