Biggest concert lineup at Jones Beach

Nikon at Jones Beach Theater announced its biggest summer concert lineup in years yesterday, an ambitious, eclectic schedule of 31 shows that cover everything from Neil Diamond pop to Drake's hip-hop to the electronic dance music of the Identity Festival.

Jason Miller, president of Live Nation's New York operation, which includes Jones Beach, said the promoter's decision to raise the number of shows by more than 50 percent this year is due to an increase in the number of available acts and an improvement in the economy. "We have a bunch of great artists that are coming through the venue, and I think people are going to have a great time at Jones Beach this summer," Miller said. "So far, people have been buying tickets. The shows are selling very, very well."

Live Nation added a handful of shows yesterday -- The Allman Brothers Band and Santana; Joe Cocker and Huey Lewis and The News; 311; System of a Down with Deftones; Journey with Pat Benatar featuring Neil Giraldo; and Chicago and The Doobie Brothers -- that go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The concert promoter has also invested about $1 million in improvements to the venue, including 60 new LCD monitors, more concession stands, landscaping and renovations to the VIP area, according to Alan Ostfield, Live Nation's president for the North Atlantic region.

Live Nation will also launch apps for the iPhone and Facebook, Ostfield said, that will give fans electronic tickets so they can use their iPhones to get into concerts and access to set lists and set times.

"We're trying to give our guests what they want," Ostfield said, adding that Live Nation will offer early-bird discounts and reduced-price ticket four-packs. "We want to offer something for everybody."
